Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
